These air fryer frozen french fries are just as good but much healthier than deep fries and are the perfect snack. Serve with your favorite sauce, or pair them with a burger and onion rings.

Making French fries in an air fryer is one of the easiest ways to prepare them. Just toss them in the basket, turn on your air fryer, and give them a good shake every couple of minutes.

Serve your fries with your favorite sauce, and complete your meal with a burger and a salad.

Why you will love air fryer french fries

French fries made in an air fryer contain less fat. Air fryer french fries are healthier since they use hot air to cook potatoes instead of hot oil.

They are gluten-free! I love it when easy recipes can be enjoyed by everyone, especially when the recipe is a classic, like french fries.

Potatoes are naturally gluten-free, but it is important to check the packaging to ensure that your fries do not contain gluten.

They are super easy to clean up after. Since these fries are not cooked in oil, you won't have to clean up any spills or splatters. You can simply wipe the basket with a paper towel or wash it with soap and water.

    Ingredients

French fries - there are so many frozen fries to choose from, and I often get the question of what fries are best to cook in an air fryer.

I always use fries without any seasoning because I like to add my own spices, but any brand will work as long as they are suitable to cook in an oven or air fryer.

Oil - You don't need to add oil, but if you prefer to, choose a neutral oil or cooking spray that is safe for your air fryer basket.

    Instructions

Preheat your air fryer to 400F.

If you like to use cooking spray, this is the time to spray a little oil in your basket, but often you don't have to. French fries are pre-cooked, meaning they already contain oil.

Add your frozen french fries to your air fryer basket and set the timer to 20 minutes.

I recommend checking every 5-7 minutes if your fries are done and giving it a good shake.

How long to cook air fryer frozen french fries

How long it takes to cook frozen french fries in an air fryer depends on the type of fries you have and your air fryer, but it usually takes about 20 minutes.

Smaller fries or waffle fries take a little less time. Check after 10-13 minutes to see if they are done.

My tips for the best air fryer frozen French fries

Line your baking tray with parchment paper. This is an important step in getting crispy fries. The paper absorbs excess moisture, making the fries less wet and allowing them to get crispy!

Don't overcrowd your basket. To make sure that the hot air can reach everywhere properly, it is important not to overfill your air fryer basket.

To ensure even cooking, it's best to spread out your fries and bake them in multiple batches.

Give the basket a shake. When cooking fries, it's important to shake them halfway through the cooking time to ensure that they are equally cooked and crispy everywhere. This should be done at least once, and possibly several times, depending on the quantity being cooked.

Season well. Adding a little bit of salt to your fries enhances their flavor, but don't stop there! I like to add French fry seasoning made with paprika, salt, oregano, and garlic powder.

Always preheat your air fryer! Preheat your air fryer to 400 F (200 C) before adding frozen french fries to prevent them from getting soft and soggy instead of crispy!

    Serving suggestions

    • Sauce. Pair your fries with a sauce like homemade mayonnaise or aioli jxjd
    • Salad. To make your meal a little healthier, I suggest pairing the fries with a salad. My favorite combinations are prosciutto melon salad, feta watermelon salad, or an easy
    • Belgian beef stew.
    • Steak.
    • Burgers. You can't go wrong with a burger and fries.
    • Fish. Fish and chips is a British classic!
    • Chicken wings. Air fryer soy garlic chicken wings or garlic parmesan wings
    • Onion rings.

    Frequently asked questions

Can I use fresh French fries?

Absolutely! Make sure to pre-cook your potatoes and cut them into equal-sized pieces before you cook them in the air fryer.

    Why aren't my fries crispy?

When your fries aren't crispy, it's likely because your basket is too full. To ensure your fries cook evenly, it's best to cook them in batches so the hot air can reach each one.

    Equipment

To cook french fries in an air fryer, you obviously need an air fryer.

Based on my experience testing various air fryer models, I find the Philips Essential XL to be an excellent choice. Its spacious basket provides ample room for cooking a variety of foods, while its quiet operation ensures that meal preparation won't disturb your household.

    Storage

Frozen French fries will last for months, but when cooked, they are best when eaten freshly baked.

I don't recommend reheating fries. They will become soft and soggy.
