Anyone who ever visits Germany probably knows bratkartoffeln. These easy, pan-fried potatoes are often served with schnitzel and beer.
By the way, this recipe is also perfect for anyone who wants to learn to cook. Especially if you take pre-cooked potato slices, it can't really go wrong.
Ingredients
Potatoes - waxy potatoes are best when you make bratkartoffeln. They are low in starch, so they hold their shape better while cooking this recipe.
This is also a great recipe to use for any leftover boiled potatoes!
Bacon - I always use smoked bacon for this recipe.
How to make bratkartoffeln
Clean the potatoes and add them to a large pot. Cover them with water and boil them until they are almost cooked.
Drain the potatoes and set them aside to cool.
Peel the onion and cut it into thin rings and the bacon into thin strips. Cut the potatoes into ¼-inch slices. Make sure they are about the same size!
Heat the oil in a large skillet and add the potato slices, onion rings, bacon bits, and some pepper to the hot butter.
Fry the potatoes for about 15-20 minutes until tender. Season with some salt and pepper, and serve the potatoes with a salad.

Equipment
To make this recipe, you will need a large, heavy-bottomed skillet. Cot the best results it's best to use a skillet with a pfas-free nonstick coating to prevent your potato slices from burning.
Storage
You can store Bratkartoffeln in the fridge for about three days. This dish is less suitable for freezing.
Warm them up in a large skillet on the stove or for a few seconds in the microwave. If your potatoes are a little dry, you can add some water.
