Chantilly cream is a light, fluffy pie filling perfect for all your pastry recipes. This classic French cream is easy to make, and you only need three ingredients!

Everyone knows that a big topping of whipped cream makes a dessert like an apple pie, chocolate sour cream pound cake or ice cream even better.
You can buy a ready-to-use spray from the supermarket, but whipped cream made by yourself is not difficult to make and is so much tastier.
For the perfect whipped cream, it is important to make sure everything is cold. Preferably put your mixing bowl and whisk in the refrigerator for a while.
Because cold cream whips up faster and prettier, take it out of the refrigerator as late as possible.
What is chantilly cream?
Chantilly cream or crème chantilly is a French sweetened whipped cream with vanilla. It is super easy to make and a delicious filling for pies, tarts, and other pastries.
Instructions
Put the whipping cream and sugar in a bowl and add a flavoring, such as cocoa powder or vanilla extract, if desired.
Whip the cream with a hand mixer or whisk. Don't start too quickly! To avoid splattering your whole kitchen, starting on a low setting is best.
How do you know when you're done?
To decorate a cake or a tuft next to a dessert, you need whipped cream that has been whipped stiffly. You can check this by holding up the hard for a moment.
Do the whipped cream peaks stay up and hold their shape nicely? Then you're done.
Sometimes, however, it is important for the whipped cream to remain slightly softer. This is true, for example, when making desserts such as tiramisu or cheesecake.
For these dishes, stop whipping when your whipped cream is about as thick as Greek yogurt or cottage cheese.
From cream to butter
You can also mix whipping cream too long. If you continue when you already have stiff peaks, the solids separate from the liquid ingredients, leaving you with homemade butter.
As soon as the cream loses its shine, gets a little grainy texture, or even turns yellowish, you are already too late, and it is not so tasty to use as whipped cream anymore.
Should this happen, it's annoying, but you really don't have to throw it all away! Wash the butter in some cold water to preserve it, and use the milk to make pancakes or crepes!
Variations
To quickly transform the cream into something special, you can add a flavor to it while whipping. Of course, the most obvious are vanilla and chocolate, but you can do a lot more with them.
Equipment
- A mixing bowl and hand mixer or a stand mixer. You can whip up chantilly cream by hand, but it will take a little longer.
Storage
Unfortunately, you can't store whipped cream well. Because the cream slowly collapses and loses most of the air, it is better to make it just beforehand.
If it is important that the tufts stay nice for a while, you can add a little whipping fix before whipping. Check the package for the right amount.
Tip: Whipped cream that has become less airy is still very tasty on, for example, hot chocolate or Irish coffee!
