Mini donuts with pink strawberry frosting are perfect for Valentine's Day. With this recipe, you will make about 10 large or 20 mini donuts.

You make these mini donuts using my sugar donut recipe with an amazing strawberry glaze of jam with powdered sugar and a little milk or water.
Love goes through the stomach. That is why this pink snack is perfect to surprise your Valentine!
You can make the frosting for these mini donuts extra pink by mixing beet juice with powdered sugar instead of food coloring.
Ingredients
Flour - because donuts are made from yeast dough, it is best to use patent flour for soft donuts. Don't have this? No problem! Plain wheat flour works too!
Oil - just like for oliebollen and quarckballchen, it's best to use a neutral oil like sunflower oil to deep fry the mini donuts.
This way, you'll end up with perfectly cooked, fluffy donuts.
Strawberry jam - For filling the mini donuts, use strawberry jam without large lumps or pass it through a sieve.
Beet juice - I use this as coloring for the icing. You can also make the icing with water and a drop of red or pink food coloring.
Instructions
- Place the flour, yeast, sugar, and salt in a mixing bowl and stir well.
- Add the milk, egg, and melted butter and mix quickly to form a dough.
- Continue kneading the dough for about 10 minutes until you have a soft and smooth dough. It will remain a little sticky which is normal.
- Place the dough in a greased mixing bowl and let it rise covered with a tea towel for about an hour until doubled in size.
- Roll out the dough to about 1 cm and carefully cut out donuts with a round cutter of about 5 cm or a glass.
- Cut out the center with an apple corer or small cutter of about 2 cm. You can add these rounds to the remaining dough or make mini donut holes by deep-frying them!
- Place the doughnuts on baking paper and let them rise, covered, for another half hour.

Preheat the oil to 356F or 180C
- Carefully lower the donuts into the hot oil and fry for about 3 minutes on each side until golden brown. Caution! Do not fry too many at once, or the oil will cool down too much, and the doughnuts will stick together.
- Remove them from the fryer with a slotted spoon and drain them on kitchen paper or a cooling rack.
How to make the strawberry glaze
- Put the powdered sugar in a shallow dish and stir in the strawberry jam. If your icing is too dry, add a few more drops of water if necessary but be careful not to get your icing too wet.
- Dip the mini donuts in the glaze and let them harden completely on a rack or baking paper.
Equipment
Round 2 or 1-inch (5 or 2 cm) cookie cutters. Small glasses or nozzles also work too!
For frying is best if you use a deep fryer. That way, you can be sure the oil stays at the right temperature.
Storage
It's best to store them at room temperature. Wrapped in plastic wrap, they will keep for about three days.
In the freezer, they stay good in freezer bags for three to six months.
