For the oat topping
- ½ cup rolled oats
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- ½ teaspoon cinnamon
- ½ teaspoon vanilla
For the warm apples
- 4 large apples
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- ½ teaspoon cinnamon
- A pinch salt
The crispy oat topping
You start by making the oat topping. Melt the butter in a frying pan and add the cinnamon, brown sugar, and oat flakes.
Cook this for about four minutes until the sugar is melted and the oats are nice and golden brown.
Spoon the oat topping onto a plate and let it cool completely.
The warm apples
Add the rest of the butter to the pan, and once the butter is melted, add the apples.
Cook the diced apple for about two minutes.
Add the sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice and simmer gently until the apples are soft and the sugar has caramelized.
Divide the warm apples among the bowls and spoon some oat topping on top.
