Ingredients

  • 1 pack sieved tomatoes
  • 1 large onion
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 1 tablespoon Italian herbs
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Pepper
  • Salt
  • ½ teaspoon chili flakes *optional

Instructions

  • Finely chop
    the onion and garlic cloves.
  • Heat the
olive oil in a pan and fry the onions on low heat until soft and slightly
caramelized. This will take about 7-10 minutes.
  • Add the garlic, spices, and sugar and fry briefly until the garlic is also soft.
  • Add the strained tomatoes and simmer gently for a few minutes until the sauce is well
heated and all ingredients are mixed.
  • Season to taste with salt and pepper, and add a little sugar if necessary

Notes

The sugar is optional. Especially if you let the onions caramelize slowly, it is not
always necessary.
