Ingredients

  • 2 cups heavy cream

Instructions

How to make butter in a mason jar

  • Fill about half of the mason jar with heavy cream and put the lid on.
  • Shake the cream until you hear a sloshing sound then pour the liquids through a sieve. This takes about 10-15 minutes.
  • Wash the butter in some cold water and add some salt or herbs.

How to make butter with a whisk

  • Add the heavy cream to a mixing bowl and beat it with a whisk until the solids start to separate from the liquids.
  • Pour the liquids through a sieve and wash the butter until the water becomes clear.

How to make butter with a (stand)mixer

  • Start mixing the cream at a low speed, and when the cream starts to thicken, increase the speed.
  • After a few minutes, you'll notice that the solids will separate from the liquids, and you will hear a slushing sound.

How to wash the butter

  • Whichever method you use, you will have to wash the butter. Separate the solids from the liquids by using a fine sieve or cheesecloth.
  • Put the butter into a bowl of cold water and press it with your hands into a ball. You repeat this step 2-3 times until the water is clear.
