Kaiserschmarrn

These light & fluffy, yummy kaiserschmarrn are a traditional Austrian dish. Served with strawberry jam and apple sauce, they are irresistible!

Ingredients

  • ½ cup flour
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • 3 eggs seperated
  • 1 ¼ cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • A pinch of salt
  • Icing sugar

Instructions

  • Whip up the egg whites.
  • Add the flour, sugar, salt, egg yolks, vanilla and milk to a large bowl and mix them until you got a smooth batter.
  • Carefully fold the egg whites in your batter.
  • Heat your butter in a large skillet.
  • Pour in your batter and cover the pan.
  • Let your kaiserschmarrn bake for about 5-8 minutes or until the bottom turns golden.
  • Cut the kaiserschmarrn in 2 or 4 pieces, flip them and let them bake for a few minutes until golden.
  • Pull them apart with two forks and let them bake for an additional few minutes.
  • Sprinkle the kaiserschmarrn with powdered sugar and serve with some (strawberry)jam and apple sauce.

Notes

In Austria, kaiserschmarren are often served with plum compote.
